I want to test a new component that will possibly be included in every skin kit. Many requests have come in for a "shadow" layer to be included in the Pro Kits and I have been reluctant to inlcude this component for two reasons: It adds to the file size of the kits, and I hadn't found a good method of making a shadow layer that universally suits any skin's colour scheme.
I may have found a good way to create a shadow layer that can be added to any PSD skin file, but I am not certain that it will work for every skin, every time. If it does work for almost every skin then I will update each Pro Kit with a shadow layer. I want to update the Pro Kits anyway so I can remove my name from the black mask (effects only some of kits) and attach it to the wireframe instead. I don't want to see my (and Andylec's) name on everyone's skins, but I do want to retain the title so that people know where the kits were born.
So I need a few testers to try some of these shadow layers on various skins so that I can determine if it is possible to provide one generic shadow layer for each car.
If I use RLE compression on the shadow layer it will add 500KB-1MB to each kit. If I use no compression it ads perhaps 2.5MB (unacceptable). There appears to be no reduction in quality using the RLE compression and it is already used on most of the kits to reduce file size, with success.
So, if the new layer will be increasing each kit by up to 1MB it is something that needs to be done properly or not at all.
If you want to help out you will need to use one of the following software products to open the PSD files:
Adobe Photoshop
Paint Shop Pro
Corel Photopaint
If you don't understand how to use layers, please don't apply. It would be best to apply the shadow to various skins to see if it is useful across a wide range of colour schemes.
If you want to help please post in this thread and include the name of your software .
