How do you make it so that if you're using a HDRI as the lighting effect and a mirror finish more, you can stop the HDR image from reflecting off of the floor?
Also, is there some way to sort of, lower the opacity of the lighting effect?

If you use a non-reflective floor.. the HDRI won't be reflected.. only on the car itself With the HDRI probe loaded into the material editor, in the 'Output' settings there's an RBG Intensity value. 1 == normal, > 1 == self-illuminated. Changing that value will have a drastic effect on the amount of light accessible from the probe Regards, Ian

Non reflective floor, I'm a 3dsMax noob, you'll have to explain answers to me from now on.
Haha.

woooot! that looks sweet Al! Just FWIW.. if you want a more subtle reflection rather than a "mirror" (ie: glossy painted floor etc).. copy the wheels material to an empty material ball.. and in that, click on the Reflect map. Changing the white / black colours there will affect the amount of shininess. The darker the top colour (black by default) the more defined the reflections.. and the bigger the contrast between the 2 colours, the more reflective.. so making them both a mid grey for example would make it appear more like how my purple UF1800 and team skinned UFR scenes look. Is just some further info though Eddie.. if you leave the floor of my max scenes as they are then for example (just plain white) the reflections won't appear (just FWIW.. using a 'Standard' material (compared to a Brazil or Raytrace material) without messing with the glossiness / speculation values won't reflect anything) As for the adjustments.. select the material ball in the material editor of where you've loaded the HDRI probe. Scroll that window down to the bottom and the 'Output' section. Click on 'Output' to expand the section. There you'll see the RGB Intensity (in the right hand column of the few text boxes available there). The larger the number you enter there, the more intense / bright the HDRI lighting will be.. lowering it too much and you won't see any effects from the HDRI. HTH a bit more Regards, Ian

Ok, i was bored so i made this little scene. It's nothing special, and i can see a few things wrong with it, but overall im happy how it came out for my first try. C&C welcome..

My Output box doesn't have RGB Intensity. It has Output Amount, RGB Offset, RGB Level and Bump Amount.
Meh, I'll just stick to standard looking renders.

Ahh sorry Eddie... RGB Level is the one you want (I was trying to remember from memory.. I just know which box to adjust.. forgot what it was labelled lol).. but the RGB Level's the one you're after There's some more info on the HDRI guide I posted a link to on here and on our team forum that might be useful as that has some images too to accompany the brief descriptions Regards, Ian

Nice render and skin Al.
If i was you though, i would tone down the reflection of the wheels.
Also, why do your tyres have some funny colors on them?

why do your tyres have some funny colors on them? Bit of post-render Photoshop colour overlay to accentuate the body shading, left some relic speckles on the tyres! Oops.
