Anyone else get to see the opener at Melbourne? I was very surprised to see what would have been bottom contenders last year stepping up and dominating this year. Not Brawn per se, but Toyota really getting their ducks in a row. Hats off to both Toyota and Brawn Mercedes. This is going to be an interesting year indeed. RIP Super Aguri. I miss my underdogs...

I think Rubens was lucky not to be penalised for his first corner shunt on Webber which also ended Kovalainen's race. I like Rubens a lot, but that mistake cost three other drivers their race. The new tyre rule didn't seem to be a good idea once put into practice, I'd bet that the differences between compounds will be less pronounced in future races. Good to see Toyota and Red Bull fielding very strong cars this year. Of course this is just the first race and we might expect the big dogs to start barking again soon, but for now it is looking promising for a competitive field, which is good news for all.

I like how low and 'squat' the cars look. Nothing against their aero guys, but until this year, all the fabricated pieces made the cars look more and more alien each year.

bunta: barichello's turn1 incident caused more than just a few accidents at the begining. from what i recall his accident ruined alot of drivers aero (specifically front wings). i noticed that a damaged car slid into Massa's car, and two laps later the engine died on the car. and as for barichello, the guy ended up crashing into a wall (without major damage) and bumping into another car later on in the race. so im my opinion hats off to button for a flawless drive, but blind luck is all that saved barichello.

Yes I agree. Blind luck and blind stewards. ;D

cant the marshals just watch it live on the bbc as it happens? theyd get good replays so theyd never miss a barichello booboo!

The stewards had the entire race to serve a penalty on him, and I'm sure there would have been complaints lodged by the effected teams. I think they do use the TV coverage to scrutinise each incident.

I agree with all of you. I was shocked that he didn't get penalized for the two incidents he particularly caused.
I kinda like the tire idea. It makes for interesting strategies.
