Howdy skin folks, it's been a while since I posted a forum announcement, but it's about time.
If you have been lurking in the last few months you might have noticed that I have updated the forum appearence and functions, and repaired some dead links. This was in anticipation of the LFS S3 release, which is now a reality. I plan to continue tweaking the forum over the next few months, hopefully to bring it a bit more up to date with the modern version of LFS and all that implies for skinning. Some parts of this forum, while old, are not outdated and I probably won't spend much time making those sections better.
The software guides while still useful may be a bit outdated now, expecially in regards to Photoshop. Since I don't use Photoshop I can't personally bring the Photoshop tutorials up to date. Somebody else may like to tackle this.
The web site is still active and is still hosting our high quality skin kits, some textures, lights, and other bits and pieces. A few of the skin kits were completely redone earlier this year to reflect changes in the mappings from some random LFS update a couple of years ago. I am fairly confident that the skin kits we are hosting are up to date. If you find that isn't true please let me know which kit is out of date and I will try to get to it. Even if a kit is out of date it is difficult to notice because the mapping changes were so small in most cases, still, I'll be happy to fix any kit if errors can be found in it.
As for any new cars that appear in S3, I will be willing to create high quality kits for these if I can get the same level of support from Scawen and Eric that I have in the past. If the mesh format (CMX) changes, I probably won't be able to make new kits, as my "wireframe extraction" software was written specifically for LFS by Andylec, whom I have been unable to get in contact with. It would be up to Scawen to help me in that case and he is always short on time - a fact which I can respect.
*You can visit the Master Skinnerz web site at the following url: www.barkingpig.org/msz/ I may update the website, a few small things are broken, but nothing major. From time to time I feature a new skin on the main page - I'm not sure if anybody cares. I pretty much randomly choose a nice skin from the forum and replace whatever has been featured up until then. I don't do this too often, but for a chance to have your skin featured, make sure you are posting your new work in your garage (formerly known as 'your skinning lab')on the forum.
My web authoring skills and knowledge have improved over the years, but my patience and time management have not, so don't expect an award-wining website any time soon. As long as you can go straight to the section you want and download the file without fuss I think we can all get along.
I am thinking of bringing back the popular skinning competitions, but I can't commit to running them on time regularly - which means there may be several over the next year but not neccessarily every month.
This forum has always enjoyed the best-behaved memberhsip of any online forum I have ever been involved with. The LFS skinning community in general, and the Master Skinnerz community in particular have always been generous, patient, and helpful to newcomers. If you are new here, please keep that in mind. If you are not new here, please remember how we do things around here.
Master Skinnerz are grateful to the LFS devs who have been extremely supportive of skinners and their needs (moreso than any other sim devs) and have been very supportive of Master Skinnerz forum and web site over these many years. We hope to continue this mutually beneficial relationship with the LFS developers with regards to skinning and are hopeful of releasing new kits as new cars are added or current models are updated.
Just for the record; I make no money from any of my LFS sites and projects (and never have done) and I do not place advertising on my sites. Any ads seen in our forum are placed by Proboards (our forum host) and should be able to be avoided using an adblocker, as far as I know.
Thank you all so much for being the community you are and for supporting LFS and Master Skinnerz.
