A couple of years ago my PC suffered a hard drive failure and I lost all of my artwork including all of my skinning artwork that I had ever made. Luckily (thought I) I had a few backups. When I went to retrieve the artwork from the backups they were corrupt. I had lost everything. Since that day I have been more vigilant in backing-up my artwork. I will first copy it all to another physical drive, then I burn it on to CD or DVD (sometimes both). I test the disks to ensure that my data is not corrupt. Only then do I relax. Today I'm creating my regular backup and I thought I would take the time to remind you all to do the same, if not today then soon. Back it up, label it, store it safely and rest easy. Ask yourself this: When was the last time I backed-up my artwork? How many hours of work will be wasted if I lose it all tomorrow? How long would it take me to create the things I use regularly in skinning or other art projects? Don't take chances, back up your stuff today.

Rule Number one of safe computing: Always make backups. Rule Number two: Always have an ample amount of backup media. *looks over to a stack of 400 blank dvd's*

400 DVD's crikey Well I'd need a bit more to backup my entire system though. 1.94TB Rule number one: Real men don't take backup, real men cries! I've had a drive crash my computer and honestly stopping it at post due to not being able to detect it. Luckily it was only a 160GB IDE drive with nothing but media on it.

400 DVD's crikey Well I'd need a bit more to backup my entire system though. 1.94TB how can you have so much to backup? my whole hard drive is only using a good 80gb, and that includes all the programs and Windows installed, browser cache, games and a whole bunch of other stuff. take that away and i've only got around 60gb of stuff i'd actually want to keep. anyway, i did actually backup all my LFS related stuff a few weekends ago. i've had my trouble with dying hard drives in the past, but i've never really backed up much. i guess i'm a bit too confident for my own good!

Well if you're like me and value your data you wouldn't want to loose any of it.
I have lots of skins in .PSD files including for ut2k4 and lots and lots of movies(well mainly it consists of movies).

Ive got around 100 gb worth of artwork and work related backups. I backup to a portable hardrive weekly. I backup to another usb portable drive monthly. every six months, I swap that drive with another in a safety deposit box.

You'll be quite upset when you do lose your data. It will happen. Not all problems are user-error, either - hardware breaks.

I'll smash my computer up right now and wouldn't care in the world about it...I'll just go buy a new one because the one I use now only has 3GB left on the Hard drive...REALLY laggy

You don't have any files you wouldn't miss?
I have a large backlog of resources I need - both for work and for hobby-related endeavours (such as a plethora of LFS downloads and PSDs of mine, decals, templates, etc etc) and I'd hate to lose any of it.
