i was just doing some research for an essay, about sports coupes (finally an essay i like). and in my trudging through various car sites i got linked to motor trend's forum, where i found pretty much just a bunch of retards. In a topic titled "best new sports car for under 50k," I found the saddest yet at the same time most amusing range of answers. And i qoute: "Ford Mustang." So the Need for Speed crowd it is then, who thinks a Lotus Elise can be out performed soley by turbo charging a 1989 Civic. complete with a fake carbon hood.
So i sit here asking myself, what would my dear friends at MS say? what in your opinion is the "Best NEW sports car under $50k (USD) money can buy." in the interest of my enlightenment please support your answer.
*Just to be clear, shouldn't be second hand car. By sports car i mean something that might be driven quickly without endangering everyone within sight and the shrubberies on the road side. Doesnt have to have 2 doors.

im thinking ford mustang mikey hahaha i kidd i kidd. Best under 50K huh? Thats kind of a toughy really, there are a few that I think would probably be pretty good. But I might be confused on what you mean by "sports car". Correct me if I am wrong(yes, it happens haha) but I always thought of a sports car as a 2 door coupe/convertable with some great handling and a nice bit of power to help it scoot a little bit. In that category/definition of sports car I would maybe say like a BMW Z4 or POSSIBLY the Pontiac Solstice or Solstice GXP(its been kicking some major ass in auto-x here in the states) And if you really want to get down to it....the Mini Cooper S/Cooper Works S is simply just awesome. But that is if the definition of sports car from you to me is the same.

good stuff. my current fav has to be the Alfa Brera. id probaly opt for the larger engine, seeing as the car isnt as brisk as others like the Audi TT, etc. but the Brera (to me) looks like it was designed by a car nut, not just some guy doing his job. its got soul. and for most peoples purposes, just scooting around, never driving on a road with tight turns just for fun, or never seeing a track day its as sporty as they need it. personally, the Audi A3 2.0T we got at home is a riot, i took it on a few mountain roads close to where i live and i gotta say; go-kart! 2 sunroofs doesnt hurt either. lately im just into hot hatches. practical, fun, fast, affordable (to a point). pretty much good value for money.

Honda S2000, Mazda Mx5 or if you'll permit me to break your rules and spend $10k too much then a Lotus Exige S

not rules lol, just a friendly suggestion, because how many people can actually afford living with a supercar? ill agree with the first two choices, simply because they are slightly more practical and i do fit in them. my knees are on the steering wheel in an Elise/Exige

That's your own fault for being so tall, Mike.
I'll agree the Exige S is extremely impractical.... but I still want one.

Well something from Lotus that is more affordable than the Exige would be the Elise.
I personally like the Elise a lot, not sure why but its neat. Pretty good for auto-x too. Its not tooooo much money, at least I'm think its not.

My vote goes for Nissan Z Coupe Nismo. Nice design, good performances, good value for money (below 40k$). Other cars that also fit in this category would be IMO Subaru Impreza STI and Mitsubishi EVO (sedans with excellent handling). If you like comfort better, Brera should be a fine choice too, together with an Audi A5 or BMW 3 Coupe. Price ratio is an important factor too, like TeazR mentioned. Impreza STI, for example, costs about 35k $ in the US while the same car here costs about 45k € (Slovenia), with the 1.4 EUR to USD ratio .

funny you should mention price ratios, because here in the gerat not so white north (canada) cars are about 10-15% more expensive than in the states, which is unbelievable because the US dollar is on par with the Canadian dollar. im not a fan of japanese cars lately, because of the rather unchanged style. i realize they have fantastic performance, but for the average persons performance requirements (speeding away from a stop light, or in my case a few burns on mountain back roads per year over the summer) something with a competent chassis and decent handling (Alfa Brera) is good enough. plus its insanely gorgeous. that and i dont like towel racks and fart cannons. like the ones that the japanese rally rockets tend to have.
