I really did intend to put stuff here when one of my team members first made mention to this site. After having a peek yesterday and seeing the wonderful renders (something I do not have the software to do), I thought I'd show a few of mine. I've done skins for about every car in LFS S2, and started when the very first S2 viewer arrived (back at the end of 2004 I believe). I'd done a few skins (my very first ever skins for anything) for S1 which I was persuaded to buy in Nov 2004, which I'll spare my blushes by not showing as they are pretty nasty. Grabs therefore are straight out of the S2 viewer. Sorry guys. This was my first S2 skin: After doing it in a variety of colours for various teammates, I made a slight restyle. Initially the hood detail and "eyeshadow" as I call it, was not present, but whilst driving the FXR against a teammate in the old livery, I decided I liked how that looked from the front, and so mashed it all together: This FXR skin bears my mascot and colours for a long running tournament we had. Again various colours and mascots were produced. My FXR in Halloween Livery from last year (used in just ONE of those tournament events and a handful of online races) Finally, to top it off, the other GTR car, the XRR. I'll spare you a great big long line showing every skin from every vehicle. I'm in the process of doing a few new ones having not done any LFS skins due to playing too much GT Legends, and doing a few skins for that. and that fellow skinners, sums up my very first post, some 5 or 6 months after I actually joined up with the intention of doing this <blush>

Agreed, they're great, really artistic, and perhaps slightly out of the ordinary, which just adds to the appeal.
Off topic, I also play GT legends, and was under the impression that skinning for it was difficult to do because something called a ".car" file had been withdrawn along with the .psd skin templates, thus if you do manage to make a skin, it has to overwrite one of the existing ones.
I'd like to make a few skins for the game myself, and would be grateful for any links/info you could give me, in a p.m might not be a bad idea, so we don't spoil your garage topic.

Thanks guys. Rafo... You're biased!! ROFL Smax, I originally said I wouldn't do any GTL skins without .car files, and although I heard they were in existence never found them. I'll look for links to the photoshop templates (don't work overly well for me, I use PSP 8 so really make my own) and pm them to you. I use the GTR editor (Geditor I think it's called) program to get the .dds files from the car I want (just type *.gtl in the filename and then open it up, works no hassle). I don't know how to make standalone skins, so I just drop my own .dds into the same directory that the car I'm skinning is in. Use the same filename as the .dds you pull from Geditor and you don't even have to mess around with putting them back in the .gtl file. Advantage is, if you want the original back, just delete your files. Disadvantage obviously, is that other people choosing the same race number will show up in your skin (not that it's really a disadvantage, you get to see your artwork going around whilst driving in car )

I like the team fog skins. Nice job. I get smoked on the track every time I race against a team fogger. Or any one else for that matter

Started a new team back in February with a few online friends. This of course gave a good excuse to reskin all the cars, though with a very quick and dirty paintjob initially. Just starting to redo them, hopefully a little bit more interesting to look at this time around. I'll start with the FXR, as it was the first to get a redesign, and will form the basis of style for each of the other vehicles. Around South City A closer look at the front Side views in mine and my AI's livery (Frankensheep) The Formula XR actually formed the basis of all the initial skins first time around, but I quickly decided that it was somewhat bland. Now the FXO GTR is forming the general basis, and just as with the FXR (which went through about 15 variations, 3 basic designs, but a careful eye on how they looked in their 512px form from LFSWorld forced numerous alternatives), I went through several designs. I wanted to capture the general feel of the FXR skin, and most importantly, I wanted to try and make the FOX a little sleeker looking.

Very nice work indeed. It is great to see so many skins that really do look complete.

Thanks guys. Al, I use that AI skin online sometimes, makes me do mean stuff, like not brake even if someone slower ahead is on my line, move over to the best line in a corner, even if someone is already on it, and brake at exactly the point I wish too, even if it means ruining the driver ahead of me I wasn't going to post these yet, because I'm not totally happy with them, and they'll be going back to the paint shop before I release them for my team. Seeing as how I'm not the only one that finds a challenge skinning for the XRR, I thought I'd upload the FZR, so you can see my attempt to create something similar for the XRR, and how possibly the FZR is the closest model to the XRR to translate lines from. (the enlarged rear, painted from above mainly, with the same problematic transfer of a shape from the rear quarter down onto the sides). Funny that the XRR is so troublesome, I find the FZR the most inspiring vehicle to skin from scratch, yet when I look at the XRR, if I wasn't trying to create something similar to that which I've already done on other vehicles, I'd REALLY struggle to come up with a design for it. Actually, in order to maintain the large decals (the prime reason for the redesign, having realised just how much detail is lost when lfsworld converts to 512px) the FZR becomes my biggest problem, with the rear flare starting from the back of the doors. Do I leave it, or do I grudgingly shrink them, to fit on the doors?

I find the XRR one of the easiest cars to skin beaten only by the FZR. Maybe because I skinned so many XRTs over the years?

Must be - I can't get a good looking skin on the XRT either! LOL I think the XRR is my favorite LFS car, too bad I can't skin or drive it worth a damn! I feel your pain wobbly.
