I actually consider it complete... it just seems a bit tacky and simple. I went with Monster b/c I love the drink and I saw one other skin but I didn't think it was done very well so i took a crack at it.. i might be eating my words for saying that. but i use the CMX viewer and PSP7. I usually do pixel art.. the small stuff, so this is a stretch being so big. oh and its at 1024X1024 b/c all the "better" resolution skins make this computer lag... so here it is. crits please! Some credits go to nemesis garage, i used some carbon fiber cues from them (around the blinker lights on the fender, around the door handles, and on the front bumper) and of course, www.monsterenergy.com for the wallpapers/logos and i used the master skinnerz xrt kits.. i couldnt use the wire frames and i dont use the files as pdf... i bet if i could layer the skins it'd look better, but if you know PSP7, its like microsoft paint with way more tools. i just tried to keep it simple since it was my first. here's a flat colored one from cmx that shows my attempt to wrap the front end.

Welcome to MSz! PSP7 does indeed use layers. I know because I used to use it before I migrated to Photoshop (7, and now on to CS3). There's no reason to not be able to use the wireframes with PSP7, it all works perfectly. When you say that 2048 res skins lag your computer, are you talking about in game or in PSP7? If it's just in game I'd recommend you skin at 2048 anyways, and just downsize for the game. It's always better to skin at a larger res if you can, you will have greater accuracy for wrapping details across different panels, which will translate to lower res skins when you downsize. Overall, the skin looks good for a first effort. It appears you've taken into account the stretching, which is good. I suggest on your next skin you focus on the design of the paintwork itself, rather than logos. Try to come up with a nice colour combination and design. Challenge yourself with it, too; make it wrap onto the top from the sides or back, etc. That's the best thing to do to learn and become a better skinner.

Welcome to the site. It seems pretty nice, but I suspect you've just taken the jpegs from the site and slapped them on? I must say I actually like the result, but it doesn't really show off much skill in actual creation. If you're up to is I'd love to see you take on a replica of a real sports or racing car. For example Team Kiwi Racing www.teamkiwiracing.co.nz/Australian%20V8%20Supercar%20Gallery%202007.htm

ohhh I didn't mean it didnt use layers.. well i guess i might have misunderstood a conversation that was about photoshop thinking when rendered there were multiple layers to create a certain paint effect or something. i did use layers on this project, i'd estimate around 50-60. i guess you could call me a layer hog. but yeh, its not lagging the game, i'm pretty sure that in game the 2048 skins wouldnt lag much at all. the 2048+ skins lag psp7 (virtual memory runs low and adjusts constantly). i might give it a go b/c once it's actually loaded it is pretty smooth, but when your scrolling, zooming, etc it lags.
This is technically my 3rd effort, but those first 2 were just seeing how it would translate from psp to the car. i like the drift direction b/c it's more show and can look a lot better in some cases than just a full race skin. thats kinda what influenced me (not to mention all the GREAT skinners here.) but with a skin that wraps to different panels makes me invision a good looking full race skin.
I'll take any and all advice and try anything. I kinda feel like im not up to par to open a skinning garage, but if you'd suggest that i would. im not a huge fan of some body kits (like the ones that nemesis garage does, the type with the widebody shadow effect on the fender) although i have to say they look great. im also trying to stay away from fake headlights b/c of the low resolution.
BUT, THANK YOU, very much for the good words. if you have any more advice it'd be greatly appreciated!

The problem with nicking the designs from real race cars is that I honestly dont like a lot of them. I'm a full on nascar addict so i guess i could go with oen from that. but that doesnt fit LFS very well. i'll see what i can come up with. again, thanks for the great words. i do repsect you guys a lot in skinning. ;D

i like the drift direction b/c it's more show... Precisely why I don't like them Wrapping across panels has nothing to do with drift or race styles. Ending a design at the edge of a panel on the skin template shows laziness and/or poor skill imho, drift or not. All the best drift skins have quite extensively wrapped schemes. I don't think you should limit yourself to just a 'drift' or 'race' style ideology; that will kill your design before you even start. Like all proper design work (2D or 3D) you have to experiment and expand your ideas, do not think critically about anything at the beginning, just go with it. If you come up with an idea that looks like something you'd see on a race car, don't toss it out because it doesn't fit the typical drift style. To rehash the old cliche, 'think outside the box.' The second you limit yourself is the second you limit your design, and your potential for getting better as a designer. I also think you should start a garage. A single thread for all your finished works is nice. It will help you see your own progression, as well as keep this site tidier.

Here are a few more, i posted 6 in the original post, but then when i read the rules (bad habbit of posting and THEN reading the rules.) it said only 2 at a time.. i kinda risked it goin for 3 in one post Here's the back bumper/rear quarter view and a shot of the brighter side from CMX Edit: almighty then! Garage it is! I'll try and get organized before i launch it. the way i see it, race schemes are more professional and promotes the sponsor more, where as a drift scheme is more artistic and most commonly uses Japanese and anime influences. this is actually a drift/race scheme. the numbers and number plates are unnecessary for drift, but i am a drift fan so its almost a duel purpose skin. btw, the full-rev advert is for the car forum i frequent on a daily basis. i've been kicking the idea around to use them as a sponsor and do a full wrapped skin. that's most likely my next venture! EDITEDIT: I know people ask others to render their skins in better more expensive programs, but how is that generally excepted? i'd hate to bug someone thinking its fine to ask when its really a PITA

Best bet to get a render is to post the skin in the Render Request thread on the LFS forums.
