Hello This is a Gimp question about how to make some metallic paint with metal flakes. The question is more about the metal flakes. I try to follow a tutorial about it on a photoshop but i didn't understand some steps www.base24.com/tutorial/Candyapple1.html(Shadows step could be skipped this is not the point ) the fact is i really don't understand how making the step 7. How highlight the flakes ? ( How layers are organised ) I try to follow the tutorial with photoshop CS3 but its way to hard for my little knowlegde of non-designer use With gimp i tried with adding noise to a colored background but im not able to bring some flashing effect on the noise particule ( i tried on transparency background too with lighting effect but no interressing result) only way i found and was not so good is to use an embedded effect called mosaic ( take a color split it on various geometrical forms with lighting effect ) but the result is too symetrical hope someone has a idea about making this Thanks for your read/answers Bregards

I haven't looked at the tutorial you linked, but I use the noise function in Photoshop. Does GIMP have layer blending modes (like Multiply, dodge, screen, etc)? If so, make a new layer with all black and white noise. Set it to 'screen' and reduce the opacity. Should give you the look you're looking for.

Hey aura,
Step 7 on the on the above tutorial looks like its there to add a highlight to a static picture, for a skin that step would be covered by the ingame lighting; it may look a bit weird if there was such a strong static highlight on the skin itself.
I'm just messing about with Gimp atm.
