Alright, so a bit ago I had this 'brilliant' idea about a scene I wanted to put my car in. So I asked around, and I found a friend with Poser 6, and a friend with 3d studio max 7. Sadly, the friend with 3d studio has class when I'm able to goto her house to work on the program, so she can't really help me.
Anyways, so after much debate, I decided on starting with flipping the car interior around, because me and my team mate both drive the car on the left, while the CMX importer has the seat on the right. So I flipped it, yay! It took four days of work to ensure I got it all, but I did. I think... Anyways..

I've run into three errors I need help solving, mostly cause I'm not sure whats wrong. Some notes though:
3d Studio Max 7
I'm -not- using Brazil. Nor do I plan on it until I learn how 3d studio works without it (and maybe not even then). There -has- to be a way to solve it without resorting to someone else's brazil scenes.
Firstly, my brake cailpers aren't mapped to the skins correctly. Its not the default cailpers, but its a high-res recolored one I found somewhere (looking for credit sources... If I can't find it, I might make my own). But the two images seem to be mapped exactly the same... Is it an error with having a larger file size? If you can't see it, it pretty much squishes both sides onto one face.

Thats a more close up shot.
Secondly, I've got weirdo shadows in random places. Is this the smoothing group issues I hear so much about? If so, I can find an old answer to the problem, but if not, whats wrong with it? (I would have experimented with the smoothing groups had I had time to work on it more before I had to go, but since I can't work on it, I might as well get an answer between now and then)
Thirdly... The windows... o.O What in the worlds up with them? The picture is all the explaination I can come up with.
Thanks for the time taken to read and reply!
P.S.
Another, less than imediate thought. If I apply a bump map, how does the black/white/grey coloring scheme work? is 50% grey the normal level, with black going down and white going up? Or is one of the two colors the 'normal' level, and the other pushes up/down? I wanted to add some texture to things like my rotors, and maybe the interior.
EDIT:
I added a brake caliper image I had rendered before, back when I was messing with the alpha of the rotor.
