I suppose both your cars use the same exterior material ID, that's why both of them have the same skin. You should make a copy of the exterior material, change it's ID and apply it to one of the cars, while the other should still use the old ID. Then apply skins to each material separately.

Open the scene. Do not copy the car. Go to file--> Merge and select the scene. Move one car away, if they are displayed one above the over. This way you'll get two different Sub material trees. One for each car.

Just FWIW.. the easiest way: Select all the car parts of the model.. right-click and select 'clone'. When prompted, select 'As Copy' from the 3 options (at this point, I often group the selected parts using the 'Group' menu to make it easier to move the meshes around the scene). Open the material editor and drag / drop the original material ball for the car into an empty ball. Making sure the copied car meshes are selected and your new material ball selected, hit the 'Assign Material' button (3rd from the left in the material editor IIRC). Now change the skin (and any other materials / textures) you want in the new material slots. This will update only the copied car meshes You can do this multiple times and have 20 different skins in the same scene if you wish.. although it'll take a while to render Regards, Ian
