Got a chance to get rid of my god ugly buick for an 87 Supra. I think it's a good move, but I don't know much about the older generation Supra. Any insights? Are they worth it? Are They too heavy? Unreliable? I just want to make sure I'm getting into something I can handle. Any comments appreciated.

They were better than the later Supras for weight IIRC. Toyotas are generally very reliable cars, but of course check it our thoroughly before making a decision.

it's non turbo and I think has the under 2000cc motor, but I think it could potentially be a really fun daily driver.

Turbos raise your insurance premium and fuel bill. The car is likely to be economical, easy to drive and park etc, and it was made back in the days when manufacturers weren't afraid of making RWD cars for guys, instead of FWD cars for girls like they do now. Are you sure about the engine? It could be a 3 litre.

I think an 80's supra sounds like a good plan. But as Bunta says, check it VERY good. You live in Oklahoma and if there is anything I know about our state is that some of the supras for sale around here have been thrashed pretty hard. Just give it a good look over.
The car itself would be a fun car to have indeed though.
So if it is nice, still runs and looks to be reliable I would say go for it. Most toyota do last a good while anyway.

I'm not for sure, I've just done a walk-around. It's for sure a base 87 supra, whatever engine it has is the one.

hey, a base '87 is a good start i guess. YOu could easily make it a fun car without having to do too much work.
See if the guy/girl will let you test drive it so you can kind of get a feel for what its going to do for you. If it runs good, then its a lot better than having a Buick(sounds like you are throwing up when you say that word) any day.

Meh. Someone bought it... Damn. There's a modded 240SX Hatch for sale, but I don't trust the college kid's been gentle to her. One thing I still stand beside: If a young kid is selling a nicely modded car, I'ts probably on it's last leg and the kid wants to dump it on someone else. Oh well, maybe sometime in he future I can start my car collection again... (Damn divorce...)

Probably or lack of money to maintain it. I've always fancy'd the 200SX and 240SX S13 machines. They're real beauties RWD sports with lots of potential. I wouldn't want a tricked out one though. Some nice rims and maybe a little skirt, rest should be performance.

He's got a CAI on it, exhaust, rear spoiler mounts and 18's, but no lowering so it looks like garbage. If I had more bank I'd pick it up and fix it right, but I'm a broke CNA with Child support coming out of my check. The day will eventually come i guess
