The new S2 skins still have stretching of the dimensions, so that logos don't appear in the correct aspect ratio if not modified.
From my investigation of the GTi (XFG) I think the 5 areas get stretched horizontally by this much:- Top 19% Sides 25% Back 20% Front 15% (since the front and back are rotated 90ยบ, they are actually stretched vertically)
Does this sound about right? Or is it more complicated that that, do they get stretched by different amounts depending on where they are? (that would make things complicated!) Is there a record anywhere for all the cars?

yeah there is some stretching going on. Maybe someone can make some templates correcting this?? Can it be done?
anyways thanx for the info.

This is how it has always been. There are two things contributing to stretching: The physical stretching lengthways from 1024 to 1280 (approx) (default in S2 will be 512 x 512 skins so comparativley this would be 512 stretched to 640), the second aspect is the mapping. Points of the skin are "tacked" to the 3d model. The skin literally is stretched and pinned on. So this casues local stretching and distortion.
Generally speaking, you can stretch your skin to 1280 x 1024, apply the decals, and then squash back down to 1024 x 1024. As you have observed, some areas are slightly more effected than others, but the above method is a good average to work from. To get a more exact idea you could take a screenshot of the car from the side view (using the cmx viewer preset). Then compare that proportionately with the side view on the actual skin. Then you will have a more accurate idea for each car. Using a combination of template and wireframe overlay, you may be able to easier predict the way the skin will be stretched.

Then you will have a more accurate idea for each car. Yep, this is what I did for the top, sides, front and back of the car to get the values in the first post. I put some squares on these areas and took screenshots using the viewer. This is assuming a uniform stretch per side, which you have pointed out is not the case. Best to use the above and then trial and error, I think.
