"...the point where two lines meet to form an angle, or the point that is opposite the base of a shape." Sadly untrue, but my friend Google seems to....

I download the CMX Importer into my 3d max 6 plug-in folder, and when i open the 3d max, it doesnt support the cmx importer. I also have 3d max 7 too, it say the same thing. just you know both of them 3d max are 30 days demo. Is that the reason why it doesnt work?
Thanks.

You might as well forget about the converter and just download some pre-made scenes.

Can you import 3DS Files? Considering that Autodesk now own both companies you'd think so.... but no. The only thing I've found on the web is a 3rd party conversion suite and that is $$$ and then still needs work in the target program. An SDK comes with Maya, so it may be that someone will have to write a cmx conversion for that. Not wanting to re-invent the wheel, has anyone heard of that being done already?

Yes. Make 3 material 'blobs' in the material editor, each one identical, but not instances of the others (there is a button to make a specific ID unique too if you can find it).
Then select each car and drag a blob onto each one. It will ask you if you want to assign it to the selection. You do. Hopefully then you should have 3 different material slots, three different cars and three different skins.
Probably an awful way of explaining it, but you CAN do it (I have).

dont explain it that difficult ^^ i made it ) thats what i did: i had a scene open...i opened the material editor and drag and dropped the first material to the second slot renamed it and put on another skin. then i selected the fo8 in the window ctrl+c - ctrl+v moved it to the right locatioin opened up the material edit drag and dropped the second material (with a different skin inside) to the fo8 and thats it thank u for information =) another question... how can i edit the floor and the walls or put a sky in...im usin a downloaded fo8 scene

another question... how can i edit the floor and the walls or put a sky in...im usin a downloaded fo8 scene Best to search Google for tutorials. There are many many ways of doing floors, walls and skies. A simple sky may just be a bitmap of a sky texture mapped to a vertical plane placed in the background or it could be an entire dome covering your scene with the sky projected or mapped to the inner side of the dome. Walls can be made from primitives like a box or you could use Max's wall tool (tricky at first) including doors of every type. But there is no one "good" answer to any of these things. A good tutorial will serve you best and will probably even give you more ideas about what is possible.

ok, had been rendering quite a while ago with no problems at all, and now coming back to it, having one main problem that is quite annoying and virtually ruins all the renders that i make. heres a quick one as to what sort of problem i am facing; *this is a scene taken from dS-Autos, along with the floor reflection addon from the same place* as you can see, the parts of the model that are usually black, or a dark colour, are now white, as if the texture has not been mapped. i cannot for the life of me figure out what is doing this, as i am only changing the settings for things that i know should, and can be, changed without making this effect -- adding a floor reflection, changing the rim colour, editing the background colour and adding a skin. for whatever reason, after doing all of this, i get that sort of effect which i posted above. i'm still in the process of testing various things to figure out what it is, but if someone could pinpoint exactly what i am doing wrong it'd save a lot of hassle. thanks in advance. *offtopic: whatever happened to dS-Autos? i havent been able to access that site for ages now, and i really miss getting valuable information from there.*

Hmm strange. You haven't replaced any textures with new ones from the patch have you? It looks like the XR_Interior1.dds file has that small square white again (the one you need to paint very dark grey / black).
That's the areas that are affected anyway.. although using the default textures that came with my scenes shouldn't have this problem.
What file are you using for the interior1 textures? One that came with the scene or a dds one from LFS itself?
As for dS Autos, although it hasn't been updated much recently, it's still there.. but unfortunately, it says here you're in Australia. I don't deliberately block much of Oz as i have clients there, but 99% of the rest of Asia is firewalled until hell freezes over.. I suspect you've indirectly fallen into one of my firewall rules. I get nothing but non-stop abuse from Asia hence my draconian filtering methods for that area of the world.
Regards,
Ian

no idea if i had changed the interior files seeing as the program hadnt been used for quite awhile. either way, i ended up reinstalling the whole thing, using textures and scenes supplied by yourself, and everything seemed back to normal. shame to hear about the problems with this side of the world and your site though. hopefully one day it'll be sorted out. p.s. any sign of a BF1 scene?
