Here is Grudd's very helpful rendering tutorial for those who are not members of RSC. Download 1.3MB here or use the mirror link below... MIRROR Thanks to winDOS. Thanks to Grudd for all the hard work he has done around here for the benefit of our skinning community! Great work mate!

I have read the tutorial, it's great work Grudd! From RSC I can say that even total 3D newbies can make their renders quite fast. However, you are using Brazil for rendering, which has maximum resolution limit (in a trial version). 3ds max 7 has a built-in mental ray renderer though. No limits. If there would be a need for mental ray tutorial, I could give it a try. (i'm personally using finalRender btw, but the mental ray is the industry leader for many years now and I can assure you that it has got all the candies you might want for your LFS renders guys. Give me at least few replies, so I know what you all need, thanks.)

its come to my attention after downloading the 3ds max v7 trial version that the CMX importer is not supported by this latest version. i am (for the time being) only interested in making renders for LFS, and with my current version of the program i am unable to do so. does anyone happen to have any links to either 3ds max v6 trial, or a version of the CMX importer that is supported by 3dx max v7?
thanks in advance

Just grab the already converted max files from someone and away you go.

well i managed to get it working, but i see i have to replace a lot of textures and whatever else to get stuff going -- if i get the "already converted max files", will i be able to skip this process? or do i have to do this every time i want to make a render?
you've probably already noticed that i have absolutely NO idea what im doing when it comes to renders, so i think i need all the help i can get in the simplest way you can put it XD

Well, the cmx-importer for 3dsmax6 should actually work for 7, but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe try the one Darkman posted it in the german lfs-forum: drt.gfxworld4u.de/tut/cmximp.zipLet me know if it worked out. edit: I don't have all the converted max-files yet, but maybe me and grudd (and whoever else is willing and capable) could put together a pack with all of the lfs-cars. It would be done fairly quick if the via cmx-importer imported meshes didn't have some smoothing-group problems. I've found a way to sort those out but it's a pain in the a** on some cars.

The version for 3ds6 works with 7...
But, ready meshes would be great. I have some problems getting those meshes ready... no problems with smoothing groups, but with the textures. Some areas are still light gray, but i have the right textures on it...
Can the problem be the DDS Plugin for 3ds? Don't wanted to convert all needed files to jpg or tga... thats boring... -_-

You're not getting those weird shadows as indicated on the screenshot? It's not on all models but on the FXR (and I think on the XRR) it's terrible - and it looks worse with a paint-material (depending on the skin of course): edit: It's strange, you're having problems with the textures... I only have to correct the tires, the steering wheel and on the interior tga-file the window frame...

Uhm... -_^ With "no problems with smoothinggroups" is meant, that i know how to correct those errors. But the one on the hood is new to me, haven't noticed that... And yea.. I have problems with that damn textures... for example the airintake in front of the fxr... the grill at the center's good, but the triangles left and right of it, are lightend up... and i don't know why... the material id is the same... and i can't change the output like we have to do it with the steeringwheel, because the grill would be messed up... Heres a picture of what I mean... Hmn... as I said, i'm using the unedited dds textures in 3dsmax. have you edited those textures? I have the same problem with the interieur... doors and seats are skinned, but inside on the bottom, theres that damn gray color...
