I'm having a bit of a dilemma and my girlfriend isn't much help.
I'm talking to all the gamers out there. I'm thinking about trading in my xbox 360 and all my stuff ($1400usd retail) for a ps3 and GT5 prolouge. I can break even for the deal with the trade back prices and my biggest questions are these:
1. is $1400usd of microsoft worth 500 Sony stuff?
2. Should I wait it out and try to sell to a private buyer? (for about $700usd) or go for the Gamestop Trade in at $500?
My deadline for trading it in at that price is tomorrow and If I do it, I come walking home with gt5P. I don't really play my 360 anymore, but I can't shake the money difference. I dunno. I just thought you guys might be able to share a little feedback. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

It's halfing your money. I'd say no to that deal and save up the cash. GT5 Prologue might be a great game but it is still just a Prologue. The final game will end up costing you even more and yeah well I wouldn't do it.

I really don't want my 360 though. I have 15 games and the only one I play is Forza 2 and at that, it's less than 30 mins a week. I just feel like it's a step towards something I CAN enjoy. Either way I'm getting rid of the 360 for sure. I'm just wondering if there's any hope of selling it privately as opposed to selling it via GS.

In the US I have no idea. But if you really, really really want that PS3 well I'm not going to stop you. I want one myself with the GT5P game but I'll just suck it up and pay cash.

I was actually thinking about making a separate thread of GT5P here, but I guess this thread nails two flies with one blow. Anyway, I got myself a PS3 with GT5P bundle last friday and been loving it since. If only it would have private servers/better multiplayer and a bit improved physics (already quite good enough to be honest) I would not think twice about leaving LFS behind me with it's current extremely sluggish development speed. And this is coming from an LFS player/enthusiast since 2002. Must tell you something? GT5 force feedback has improved a lot from the GT4, now the ffb comes from the cars front wheels just like LFS. This delivers a pretty nice feeling of the car, you can feel when the car understeers or oversteers naturally. Front wheel drive cars feel like front wheel drive, rear wheel drives feel like rear wheel drive, you get the point. Only "bugs" they have to nail about the physics are still the viscous feeling differentials and weird looking jumps. It's kind of like the suspension never really bottoms out and the chassis takes the landing too smoothly when it should bounce. If you ignore these points, physics are quite fine. The main point why GT5P has really nailed it on me, is the full G25 support. It really works like a charm and with the new cockpit camera, it's quite a sensational experience to drive. Needless to say, driving feeling is closest to LFS than I've experienced in any other game. GTR series or rFactor are a complete joke compared to GT5P in feeling of the car. To your question. I wouldn't trade my 360 for the PS3 though, there really aren't many good games out for the PS3 but there are loads of great fun games for the 360. I tried pretty much all the demos from Playstation Store for the PS3 and none of them really made me want to buy them. Anyway, if you're thinking of either one of these consoles, you must have them both. Can't help you any more than that. About worthiness.. if you've got over 80k kilometers clocked at lfsworld like myself, and you're dead bored of LFS and want something new, I consider PS3 purchase only for Prologue to be worth it. However, if you still enjoy playing LFS like there's nothing wrong with it, then it isn't worth the money. When the full GT5 hits the stores, by then it will be worth it no matter what. To conclude. Even with GT5P still having some weak and failing points, I'm very excited at the new, more realistic heading of the GT series and this new one has proven me there can be a worthy successor to LFS with some more work given in to it. Diamond in a rough. Some videos of it by me: nismo.1g.fi/kuvat/gt5racingr34.avinismo.1g.fi/kuvat/gt5touge.avinismo.1g.fi/kuvat/gt5p-drifting.aviEdit: Also something that drifters such as me enjoy in GT5P, is the possibility to have FIFTY degrees of steering lock. This is something that we have begged to be done in LFS again, but it never has happened and I doubt it will. "But it's a RACING simulator!".

I'm going to go ahead and do the trade. It's a more personal issue to me than monetary. Ther are two things in my life personally that have rocked me to my core and shaped who I was in terms of my passions and goals. Ironically both are video-games. This would make more sense if you had my life's history, but long story short my PSX brought me through the harder parts of my childhood and teenage years. The two games and their concepts are still an integral part of my lifestyle and I've lost sight of both of them through stresses of marriage and everyday problems.
Gran Turismo shaped me the most. I'm probably not the only one here who found that game a revolutionary wake up call. It's largely what made the import scene boom, what made the American populous dream of one day owning a GT-R, and the True backbone as to what a racing sim should be. Thanks to it I can name the make, model, and year of any car on the street and probably give some ponters on how to make said cars better. It's what inspires me to keep with automobiles. It fueled my dreams back then and still does to this day. When my wife (now EX) made me decide bewteen the 360 and the ps2 to sell it was a no-brainer. But now I want to find my true roots again in the hopes that I'll be further inspired to keep with my dreams and continue my passion towards cars.
I'm not going to miss the 360 one bit. I've played and beat all the top games and I don't see a bright future on the horizon for development, especially for racing sims. Whereas GT5 won't only be something to look forward to, but something that IMO will reshape what we think about when it comes to cars. It's going to rock the world as hard as it did when the first one came out. I look forward to my PS3 and it's reverse compatibility, so I can go through all 5 GT's and also play the other game that shaped my life. (Final Fantasy VII) Thanks for all the advice, everyone.

I would say that past versions of GT were certainly nothing like what a true sim should be and weren't sims by any definition. The new version is perhaps the first version to begin to realise what a real sim is.
I actually think it is a sad shame that some people think the GT series was ever a sim. The only reason what they are trying to make it into a sim is because of the huge number of people who have complained about it's lack of realism. It has always been a good car game, nothing more.
I hope the new version turns out to be everything you want it to be, and if you want a sim, I hope it turns out to be one, but the former installments certainly are not.

Toni you nutter, I have a G25 and now I really really want a PS3 and GT5P. You make me use my money! That's a perk too. I didn't mean all of the gt's. Back when GT1 came out, nobody had seen so muchput into a racer. I agree their physics were lack-luster. Especially GT4's delayed turning sensor.

I think its always good to surround yourself with a large number of racing games. My personal fav's are LFS for the sim-style GTR racing, GT4 for pounding a BMW Z4 through a little italian city track (cita di aria for your nutters), Forza 2 for the Ferrari F40 (brings tears to my black soul) and endurance racing with a chum. And then there's my other type of racing...which involves a dune buggy with a mounted machine gun and gernade launcher. i mostly use the front bumper though, if you catch my drift. so i really dont think you can choose just one game, even if it is GT5 when it comes out.

I sat down and played both GT5 and Motorstorm (got it on the cheap) today and I'm very impressed. one thing that is always lacking in a sim game is the sense of weight. This game achieves it to a point which is indescribable. You just have to play it to experience it. One thing I don't like about the PS3 was it's first time startup on a game. I think I waited for about 15 minutes worth of installing. Ugh.. reminds me of a computer. Slowly but surely I think that is going to be its best merit, though. The ps3 is definately not for the casual gamer. It's basically a blu-ray XPS or Alien. I'm loving what little time I got to spend with it and look forward to my two days off coming up.
GT5 is worth every penny, even if it is a prologue. Fantastic.

I'll keep you posted and write up an honest review so you can get a better idea of the experience. I just got off my night shift and have the next two days off, so I'll probably be throwing random stuff onto this thread describing the experience. Most big name reviewers hate racing, so maybe I can shed better light on the game.

I had my first 3 online races last night and I must tell you, online feature is pretty much useless. Here's my report.
First race, I choose a track, selected my car, pressed OK. Then the game starts doing a "player match" which took less than a minute, then I got presented in to a pre-race grid which shows all the players and what they are driving. Apparently person in the pole on this list is the person who is "hosting" that race.
Anyway, then the race began. Now the grid was randomized and I started around mid-grid. Since GT5P only has rolling starts, there was no hassle in that. Quite a shame really.
Then we got to T1. All hell breaks loose. People with pads decide it's a better idea to use the people in the front as brakes and just slam in to them like no tomorrow. That causes about 5 cars to go in the "ghost mode" where other people can drive through you for some seconds. The retarded ramming caused the 3 leading cars to get pushed in to the wall, receive the "ghost" penalty and others (rammers) could simply drive through them. Fair game, huh.
Shifting by the G25 shifter + clutch was definately faster than other people shifting semi-auto, I could easily pull away/close gaps in the shift times.
Eventually I managed to pass my way in to first position past the rammers by actually utilizing my cars real brakes and having proper racing lines. It didn't take long until the assholes tried to ram in to my back too, but I managed to brake late enough and turn in quickly, causing them to miss me and head right in to a wall.
Last lap (all races seem to be 3 laps for some reason) began and I had a pretty good gap to the second car. Then something happens.
The car in second place gets given DRAFTING BOOST multiplier thing. I kid you not. If the leading car has distance enough to win the race as is, the game gives the cars behind him a rubberband like push to give them more chances of winning. I am dead serious.
I ended winning the race with a 1 second gap to the second car, but man did that race feel dirty as a 10 dollar hooker.
Also I have heard my friends reporting that a lot of people hosting (person on pole in pre-race grid) quit the race when they screw up and no longer have chances of winning, that also forces everyone else to exit. Some hosting people tend to drive the first two laps, then screw up in the last lap and quit. Must be such a nice feeling to race two laps and then get disconnected by a prick who doesn't think of others.
Anyway, that has been my GT5P multiplayer experience. Totally rubbish.

hopefully they fix that for GT5. i havent played that but i can speak for Forza 2....dam clever AI (unlike GT). especially once you get into the mid-upper echelons of the game they actually try to avoid you if you break early, they adapt a new racing line if you're beside them and generally behave like a skillful, respectful human player. the steering wheel for x360 isnt as good as the G25, but comparable or better than the DFP. so i suggest FM2 if your mad at GT5P
